The U.S. Department of Commerce provides technical assistance to the government of Algeria to promote innovation and entrepreneurship as a means of economic growth through funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI). In support of this goal, CLDP seeks to build the capacity of the government and private sector to foster an enabling environment for technology-based entrepreneurship. In this context, from October 21-24, 2019, CLDP organized a workshop on Licensing Negotiations in Algiers, Algeria for private sector stakeholders in conjunction with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Algeria. Approximately 25 participants took part in simulated licensing negotiations alongside two US based experts from M.I.T. and the University of New Hampshire School of Law. The workshop consisted of both theory and practice as well as an opportunity for American experts and Algerian private sector stakeholders to discuss their experiences in areas of patents, trademark, trade secrets, and copyright.
