On September 21, CLDP partnered with USAID Trade Central Asia to hold a Regional Women’s Summit in Tashkent, Uzbekistan aimed at raising awareness and building capacity of Central Asian public and private sector stakeholders to integrate gender considerations into all sectors of economy, specifically in trade and customs. The event gathered women-owned SMEs, business women’s associations, government officials, and civil society representatives from across the Central Asia region to work together towards the promotion of gender inclusive trade and economic policies in the region. Leading experts from international organizations, such as the World Customs Organization, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, as well as local government officials representing Customs Administrations, Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies, and Ministry of Transportation, and private sector representatives of women’s associations led sessions dedicated to the importance of gender balance in the customs sector, harnessing e-commerce opportunities for women in business, the impact of current geopolitical changes on the global trade and supply chain, and the importance of regional cooperation for women associations to achieve gender inclusion in Central Asia. This summit furthered CLDP’s goals in the promotion of women’s economic empowerment in Central Asia, and contributed to CLDP’s efforts in identifying challenges and developing recommendations for the promotion of gender inclusive trade and economic policies in the region.
