On May 17, 2023, CLDP participated in a Public-Private Dialog (PPD) on the recently drafted amendments to Georgia’s Copyright Law regarding Collective Management Organizations (CMOs). The PPD was hosted by the Culture Committee of the Georgian Parliament, Georgia’s Intellectual Property Agency “Sakpatenti,” and USAID. CLDP provided feedback on the proposed Amendments as did experts from some of the international CMOs CLDP sponsored during CLDP’s 3-day Roundtable on CMOs in January 2023 in Tbilisi, Georgia. CLDP will continue to provide assistance as the amendments are debated, passed, and implemented. If amendments to Georgia’s law are enacted and implemented in a manner consistent with international best practices, they can promote and distribute foreign and domestic cultural, social, and economic value by strengthening fair, efficient, transparent, and accountable processes.
