Dominican Republic: Business Ethics Roundtable to Strengthen Public-Private Dialogue on Business Ethics

On May 25, CLDP, in collaboration with the General Directorate for Ethics and Government Integrity (DIGEIG) and the Dominican National Council of Private Enterprise (CONEP), organized a public-private dialogue on strengthening integrity mechanisms in the private sector. The roundtable dialogue included opening remarks from the General Counsel of the US Department of Commerce, Leslie Kiernan, who shared her experience about the importance of robust compliance programs and the benefits that strong business ethics can generate for the private sector. The dialogue also included an opening presentation from the President of CONEP, Celso Marranzini and Vice President, Cesar Dargam, who spoke about the role that CONEP could play in promoting business ethics throughout the DR’s private sector, beyond just their members. CLDP also invited experts from the US Department of Justice, Ethicist International and a health sector association from Ecuador, who shared their perspectives on how to effectively implement integrity mechanisms through sector-specific collaboration within industries and robust engagement with the relevant regulatory, ethics and procurement entities within the government. The audience included members of CONEP’s board of directors and the heads of several trade associations, including pharmaceutical and tourism associations. As a result of the dialogue, CONEP and DIGEIG expressed a commitment to continued collaboration and dialogue to develop modern codes of ethics and to incorporate the best practices shared by CLDP experts.
