On June 3, 2024, CLDP led a technical session with 30 officials from the Dominican National Commission for the Defense of Competition (ProCompetencia) and the General Directorate for Public Procurement (DGCP), focused on formalizing their collaboration in the fight against anticompetitive behavior in the Dominican public procurement system. The workshop began with a summary of recent efforts to strengthen the detection, investigation and sanctioning of anticompetitive behavior in the Dominican Republic, before moving to focus on international best practices for establishing the role of antitrust authorities in the procurement system. Experts then went on to discuss best practices in the development of a strategic institutional framework. As a result of this workshop, Procompetencia and DGCP plan to finalize the protocol formalizing their cooperation. This session was conducted as part of CLDP’s USAID-funded technical assistance effort to improve the Dominican Government’s capacity to detect, investigate, and prosecute anti-competitive conduct in the public procurement system.
