From June 4 – 5, 2024, CLDP, along with partners from the Dominican National Commission for the Defense of Competition (ProCompetencia), held two events aimed to stress the importance of an updated competition law in line with international standards to a group of Dominican Judges and Legislators. On June 4^th, CLDP’s workshop on the role of courts in strengthening the enforcement of competition in public procurement systems reached a group of 60 judges. The workshop discussed fundamental elements of an effective governance and enforcement structure for combatting anti-competitive conduct, drawing on examples from the US and Canada, and lessons learned from Brazil. On June 5^th, CLDP and ProCompetencia organized a technical session for 50 legislators and staffers in the Dominican Senate to discuss the importance of a modern competition regime to reduce inequality, promote innovation and spur economic growth in the Dominican Republic. This session formed part of CLDP’s USAID-funded technical assistance to support ProCompetencia’s efforts to strengthen antitrust enforcement in both the commercial and government markets in the Dominican Republic.
