On June 14 – 15, 2022, CLDP, together with Ecuador’s Ministry of Telecommunications (MINTEL) hosted a workshop on the expansion of high-speed broadband internet to underserved communities for officials from Ecuador, Peru, Colombia, and Bolivia, as well as representatives from the General Secretariat for the Andean Community. The workshop began with opening remarks from the Ecuadorian Minister of Telecommunications, and included speakers from the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC), the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), Microsoft’s Airband Initiative, the National Rural Broadband Association, and the Wireless Internet Service Provider Association, who discussed both private sector and governmental solutions to rural connectivity challenges. The workshop was also livestreamed to be made accessible to participants from Universities across Ecuador. This workshop contributed to the Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity Partnership, a U.S. Government initiative to help partner countries harness the power of an open, reliable, and secure digital economy.
