Georgia: CLDP to Hold Workshop on Adjudication of Intellectual Property Cases

-

On July 20-21, 2019, in Batumi, CLDP held a workshop on the adjudication of civil intellectual property infringement cases. Thirty-two judges from trial- and appellate-level courts throughout Georgia attended the workshop, which focused on issues arising from trademark and copyright disputes. Judge David Carter, U.S. District Court of the Central District of California, and Magistrate Judge Becky Thorson, U.S. District Court of Minnesota, led the workshop, and representatives of the Georgian Copyright Association and the National Intellectual Property Center of Georgia, or Sakpatenti, also presented case studies that involved interpreting and applying Georgian law as it relates to copyright and trademarks. This annual program promotes reasoned decision-making and a uniform approach to intellectual property disputes in Georgian courts.
