On September 3-5, CLDP hosted a workshop for the Kosovo Customs Administration that engaged key customs officials to discuss the current threats and trends in counterfeits and cybercrime in Kosovo. Experts from the Container Security Initiative (CSI) and Homeland Security Investigations (HIS) at the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the U.S. Department of Justice shared international approaches to detecting and preventing global IP crime, utilizing inter-agency coordination and intelligence in law enforcement, and turning customs violations into successful criminal prosecution. Protecting and enforcing intellectual property rights at the border combats the prevalence of U.S. product counterfeits in Kosovo, as demonstrated by the seizure of 7,500 counterfeit Apple products made by Kosovo Customs the week prior to the program. Dynamic enforcement strengthens the business environment for trademarked businesses.
