On August 3-15, 2015, CLDP, in close coordination with the U.S. Department of Justice and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, hosted a high-level delegation of Pakistani judges from Peshawar, Balochistan, Islamabad, Lahore, and Karachi for Intellectual Property (IP) consultations in Washington, DC and Minneapolis, MN.  Pakistan is at a critical stage in reforming its IP regime as it seeks to update its IP legislation and implement a new Special IP Tribunal that will be tasked with adjudicating IP cases.  The twelve participating judges met with members of the United States judiciary, enforcement agencies, academia, and business community to learn about effective best practices in establishing IP regimes that contribute to economic development.  Highlights of the program included engagement with USPTO, U.S. courts that deal with IP cases and U.S. companies that have benefitted from IP protection.  At the end of the program, the delegation met with a Federal Judicial Center team that discussed development of an IP benchbook for the Pakistani judiciary.
