On November 15th, CLDP launched the International Trade Law Program in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Over the past year, CLDP has been working with trade law experts and practitioners as well as university faculty from Sri Lanka and the Sri Lankan Moot Court Bench to organize a program that will provide trade law and WTO training, resources, networking, and professional opportunities to students and lawyers interested in the field. As part of the program, the organizers developed a podcast and blog to keep participants informed on upcoming events and trending topics in international trade law. On the day of the launch, CLDP gathered students, coaches, university deans and professors to launch the program and raise awareness for what it has in store for the upcoming year. The program was followed by a felicitation ceremony to congratulate the teams and champions who participated in last year’s John H. Jackson (WTO) Moot Court Competition, which will also allow the new teams and prospective students to meet with and learn from the program alumni. This effort is part of CLDP’s goal to increase WTO compliance in the country, which will in turn promote economic development and connectivity for Sri Lanka and its neighboring countries.
