On October 21, 2021, CLDP, in partnership with Tunisia’s Ministry of Women, launched an e-commerce working group with representatives from the Tunisian government, private sector, and civil society. The purpose of the working group is to discuss legal and regulatory barriers and propose solutions to enable women-owned businesses in e-commerce. A total of 26 participants attended the event in person at the Laico hotel in Tunis, with 21 participants joining virtually using the Zoom platform. U.S. experts from the International Trade Administration (ITA), Center for International Private Enterprise (CIPE), and UPS also joined virtually. Dr. Riadh Zghal, a renowned Tunisian professor and expert on women’s economic empowerment issues, moderated the roundtable discussion. CLDP’s e-commerce expert played a key role in capturing the priority areas for future discussions, including consumer protection, trade facilitation, cross-border transactions, and foreign exchange regulations. The working group will continue to meet quarterly, and its recommendations will be presented at a ceremony to be held late next year in Tunis.
