CLDP, in cooperation with the Department of Commerce International Trade Administration Enforcement and Compliance Division (ITA) and the United States International Trade Commission (USITC), held a week long U.S. Based Consultations on WTO Trade Remedies-AD/CVD and Safeguards, for six Ukrainian officials from the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine (MEDT). The Consultations aimed to acquaint the MEDT officials with the principles and processes by which the U.S implements the relevant WTO trade remedy agreements. The Consultations also engaged the MEDT officials in the practical aspects of interpretation and implementation of the relevant WTO agreements in conjunction with the respective laws and regulations of Ukraine. Finally the Consultations worked through extant remedies examples as case study exercises to determine the miscalculations, if any, which led cases to dispute resolution within the WTO.

As a result of the Consultations, Ukrainian government officials in attendance have a better capacity to correctly develop and implement fair trade remedies harmonized with the requirements of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), the WTO Agreement on Implementation of Article VI of GATT, the WTO Agreement on Subsidies and Countervailing Measures and the WTO Agreement on Safeguards.
