US Consultations for Armenian Judges on Intellectual Property Infringement Cases

-

CLDP hosted five days of consultations on intellectual property enforcement for 7 judges from general jurisdiction and appeals courts in Armenia as well as an official from the Justice Academy of Armenia. The group met with USPTO, the Federal Judicial Center, and U.S. District Courts in Washington, DC, Maryland and Virginia. The judicial delegation engaged in interactive discussions utilizing country-specific case studies and U.S. case law on patent and copyright infringement, calculation of damages, judicial case management, judicial education, collective copyright management, electronic evidence, and unfair competition.

These consultations were a follow-up to the Workshop on Adjudication of Civil Intellectual Property Infringement Cases held in February 2014 in Yerevan, Armenia for approximately 30 judges. These programs are part of a series of trainings in 2014 that are designed to address topics of interest and ongoing intellectual property rights (IPR) enforcement challenges in Armenia. CLDP’s judicial capacity building programs will contribute to the improved protection and enforcement of IPR in Armenia by creating a critical mass of judges trained in the enforcement of IP laws and will help Armenian judges to hone their skills and develop their expertise to provide fair, efficient, and consistent resolutions of intellectual property disputes.
