Workshop on Adjudication of Intellectual Property Infringement Cases in Kyrgyzstan

CLDP, in cooperation with the State Intellectual Property and Innovation Service of the Kyrgyz Republic (Kyrgyzpatent) and the Kyrgyz Judicial Training Center, held a two-day workshop on the Adjudication of Intellectual Property Infringement Cases in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan for judges and intellectual property (IP) officials. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Bernice Donald, Northern District Court of Georgia Judge Alan Baverman, and District Court of Munich Judge Oliver Schön led dynamic discussions based on trademark and copyright infringement case studies and shared their expertise on the role of IP protection, best practices in judicial case management and the role of interagency cooperation.

While in Bishkek, Judge Donald and CLDP Chief Counsel Stephen Gardner also participated in a panel discussion hosted by US Embassy Kyrgyzstan in advance of World Intellectual Property Day, whose focus in 2013 is on creativity and the next generation.  Kyrgyz film director Ruslan Akun also participated in the panel, sharing his experiences with piracy of his film “Salam, New York!” and the importance of securing stronger IP protection in Kyrgyzstan.
