CLDP, in cooperation with the Kyrgyzstan Judicial Training Center, held a two day Workshop on Adjudication of Intellectual Property Infringement Cases in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. In attendance were 26 judges from the Supreme Court, and local and regional courts in Kyrgyzstan. The workshop featured presentations as well as practical and effective training in IP adjudication skills through the use of country-specific case studies and interactive discussions. Directly addressing the questions submitted to CLDP by the Kyrgyz judges, the workshop included such topics as civil and criminal IP litigation; the distinction between trademarks, industrial designs, and “trade dress"; adjudication of trademark and copyright infringement cases; remedies in IPR litigation; and internet issues in IPR cases.

As a result of the workshop, Kyrgyz judges gained the skills necessary to fairly, efficiently, and effectively adjudicate intellectual property infringement cases. The workshop also helped determine further course of in-depth study for Kyrgyz judges, allowing an effective judicial training program in this area. The anticipated long term outcome is to develop a strong corps of judges trained in best practices IP dispute adjudication, and to produce predictable, harmonized, and efficient adjudication of IP infringement cases across Kyrgyzstan.
