CLDP, in cooperation with the Higher Commercial Court of Ukraine (HCC) held a five day long Workshop on Drafting of the Intellectual Property Benchbook. Workshop aimed to assist Ukraine to obtain a more effective adjudication of International Property (IP) cases by the Ukrainian judiciary through the development of the IP Benchbook. It brought together a drafting committee composed of judges from the HCC. They met with Judge Thorson of the U.S. District Court Minnesota to discuss the practical adjudication of IP cases and the utilization of tools such as benchbooks. They also worked with a judicial educator from the Federal Judicial Center, Kris Markarian, who assisted the judges in the composition and framework of the benchbook. As a result of the workshop, the IP Benchbook committee developed the scope, purpose, and audience of the benchbook, as well as the timeline for the drafting of the IP benchbook. The anticipated long term outcome of an IP benchbook is more consistent, effective and efficient resolution of IP disputes by the Ukrainian judiciary, which will result in a more attractive business and investment climate in Ukraine.
