Workshop on Interagency Border Cooperation


On May 25-26, 2016, CLDP, in cooperation with the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS), the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine and the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of Ukraine, conducted a workshop entitled “Interagency Border Cooperation”. The workshop provided the opportunity for Ukrainian government agencies to come together to discuss legislative and institutional steps necessary to adopt a framework of interagency coordination to better interdict substandard and illicit goods in Ukraine, as well as the efficiency of other relevant legal remedies.

Ukrainian participants included representatives from the State Fiscal Service,  Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine (the Ukrainian Sea Port Authority),  Ministry of Health Care of Ukraine, State Service of Ukraine on Foods Safety and Consumer Protection (SSUFSCP), High Commercial Court of Ukraine (HCC), High Administration Court of Ukraine (HAC), Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM), Administration of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine and the private sector.

In the course of the workshop active discussions followed the panel presentations. The discussions resulted in the approval by the participants of the specific recommendations aimed at identification and resolution of specific issues of interagency coordination in Ukraine as well as at improved efficiency of interdiction of substandard and illicit goods at the border and efficiency of other related legal remedies.
