CLDP helped to support the development of intellectual property as a tool to accelerate knowledge-based economic development in Armenia through a technical assistance program and an assessment trip, which took place on December 9-12, 2013 in Yerevan, Armenia. Professors and IP specialists from the University of New Hampshire School of Law traveled to Armenia to spend a week training professors and faculty members from the American University of Armenia and law schools in Armenia in the development of intellectual property curriculum, intellectual property instruction, and the creation of an intellectual property legal clinic. Topics discussed included global innovation and the commercial market, trademarks and related forms of IP protection, patents and trade secrets, patent licensing, IP management principles and practice, and copyrights. Through this initial exchange program and subsequent technical assistance, universities in Armenia aim to develop and improve their intellectual property curricula, develop trainings for instructors and faculty, establish cooperation between international IP institutions and law schools; and develop IP legal clinics. In tandem with other ongoing IPR-related programs, CLDP's work will continue to contribute to the improved protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights in Armenia.
