The workshop instructed approximately 20 officials from MOESD, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Finance and the Competition and State Procurement Agency of Georgia on the existing guidelines established by the relevant WTO agreements (anti-dumping, subsidies and countervailing duties, and safeguards) and on practical aspects of interpretation and implementation of the relevant WTO agreements in conjunction with the respective laws and regulations in Georgia. The workshop also employed a comparative analysis between the European Union and the United States, and utilized several comprehensive case studies. Leading the workshop was the prominent international legal advisor Dr. Roberto Rios Herran, who specializes in international trade law and WTO-related topics.
The program, which was initiated in 2012 and will include additional workshops in 2013 and 2014, will enhance the capacity of Georgian Government officials to effectively take part in international trade negotiations and improve their ability to foster and promote Georgia’s trade and investments interests.
