On April 29, 2019, CLDP & USTR conducted a workshop on ‘Strengthening Supply Chain Management,’ for 70 textile and apparel industry representatives in San Salvador, El Salvador. The Salvadoran industry’s reactive, rather than proactive response to issues that arise in the supply chain coupled with miscommunication and isolation within the supply chain collectively hinder the industry’s competitiveness and work force retention. To enhance its competitiveness in the global textiles supply chain, El Salvador must become proactive in its communication within the supply chain and embrace innovative product development. To address these areas of need, CLDP & USTR conducted a workshop to empower the industry to understand factors that affect supply chain management; identify and address logistical challenges; adapt to customers’ supply chain needs and priorities; and effectively communicate within the supply chain. Strengthening the capabilities and efficiencies of the Salvadoran textile and apparel industry will enhance export opportunities along the full US – CAFTA-DR supply chain. This workshop is part of a multiphase effort to improve regional economic prosperity in Central America’s Northern Triangle by improving the Salvadoran Textile industry’s competitiveness through enhanced efficiency and communication within the integrated supply chain.
