On Monday, March 29, 2021, CLDP led the working group session of the U.S.-Central Asia Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council meeting. CLDP reported on the work of its Expert Level Working Groups on Customs, Women’s Economic Empowerment, Sanitary/Phytosanitary Measures, and Intellectual Property Rights. The TIFA Working Groups unanimously adopted CLDP’s recommended focus areas and projects for the current year. As approved at the meeting, CLDP will begin facilitating a new regional Digital Trade Working Group. Despite recent improvements, the Central Asian region remains one of the least integrated regions globally. By assisting the governments of Central Asia to collaborate on fair, trade-focused, and transparent rules and procedures, the CLDP-facilitated Expert Level Working Groups can contribute to their efforts to mitigate the pandemic’s effects, expand regional and global trade, and promote market access.
