CLDP Hosts Technical Session on Dominican Republic's Draft Competition Law

-
President of Procompetencia speaking

An effective competition regime increases investment opportunities for US firms by preventing dominant local firms from creating anti-competitive barriers to entry. To this end, from September 25-26, CLDP along with the Dominican Republic’s National Competition Defense Commission (Pro-competencia) held a technical session reviewing the Dominican Republic's draft competition law, with the goal of creating updated regulatory framework for competition in line with international best practices that will boost competitiveness and investment in the country. Building upon the guidance issued by U.S. and international experts over several weeks, the session served to identify gaps in the draft amendment to Law 42-08, discuss the technical recommendations to address them, and help Dominican government officials reach a consensus on incorporating these recommendations. The session included presentations and guidance from experts from the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the George Washington University Law School. This technical session forms part of CLDP’s ongoing support for a more effective and robust competition regime in the country.
