Dominican Republic: CLDP Procurement Work Highlighted to Congress and President

On August 23, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires, Robert Thomas, hosted a reception at the Ambassador’s residence in Santo Domingo where he introduced CLDP to an audience of Dominican senators and their staff. CLDP provided remarks on the importance of public procurement reform in combating and preventing corruption in the Dominican Republic and in expanding opportunities for local and international businesses. Audience members expressed interest in working with CLDP once the draft procurement law reaches the legislative review stage. On August 26, CLDP also participated in a meeting with the Legal Advisor to the Dominican President, where the U.S. Embassy highlighted CLDP’s work on the draft law. As a result of the meeting, CLDP was asked to assist the Legal Advisor in his team’s review of the draft bill. CLDP has been working with the Dominican government since April to incorporate international best practices in its draft procurement law.
