Dominican Republic: CLDP Organizes Women-Owned Business Fair and Conference

On May 25-27, CLDP and USAID supported the Dominican Republic’s first business fair and conference focused solely on small women-owned businesses in partnership with Asociación Nacional de Mujeres Empresarias, Ejecutivas, y Profesionales, INC (ANMEPRO), Asociacion Dominicana De Mujeres Empresarias (ADME), and Federación de Mujeres Empresarias (FEM), the three main women-owned business associations in the country. The event, titled Expo Mujer Mipyme, was cosponsored by key government partners including the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs, the Ministry of Women Affairs, the General Directorate for Public Contracting, the export promotion authority ProDominicana , and by key private sector actors. Expo Mujer Mipyme showcased 25 women-owned businesses with traditional and non-traditional products and services in technology, handicrafts, agribusiness, sustainability, innovation from across the country. The agenda included 15 talks, panels, and forums covering business development, finance, leadership, access to government resources, export promotion, and sustainability, with 453 people attending the fair and the training programs. The event received in-kind support and sponsorship from 40 entities in the Dominican government, private sector, and United States government. The opening ceremony included remarks from the DR Minister of Industry, Commerce, and MSMEs, Víctor Ito Bisonó, the General Counsel of the U.S. Department of Commerce, Leslie Kiernan, and Acting Deputy Chief of Mission at the United States Embassy in Santo Domingo, Alexander Titolo, who highlighted the importance of promoting the participation of women in the formal economy, economic policy development, and public procurement.
