Through the support and recommendation of the Commercial Law Development Program, the Senior Economist of the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) was accepted as a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) International Fellow worked in Washington DC from mid September 2008 until mid December 2008 in the FTC

On August 25, 2008, an Egyptian trial court rendered a landmark decision against nine cement companies for engaging in anti-competitive behavior. This cartel case is a significant milestone in Egypt as it resulted in a major monetary penalty ($37.7 million USD) against the defendants.

In response to the request by the Palestine Standards Institution (PSI), CLDP invited two PSI officials to participate in the NIST Standards in Trade Workshop on WTO/TBT Inquiry Point Operations for India, Middle East, and North Africa.

As part of its ongoing support to the Government of Ukraine in their effort to adopt legislation and implementing measures for intellectual property enforcement as called for in the WTO TRIPS Agreement, the CLDP held a two-day workshop for judges representing a number of Ukrainian Oblasts.
